You can go to psychotherapy because you have difficulties with getting your life together, have anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties, relationship difficulties or other psychological conditions such as personality-related difficulties, that you have difficulty getting along with others or have difficulty succeeding in things that you need do to live the life you want to live. You can go to psychotherapy to learn more about yourself, to gain more insight into your reactions and behavior patterns, learn to identify emotions and gain increased understanding of how one perceives oneself in relation to others. It can be reactions and behaviors that mean that we do not get our emotional needs met or that we end up in unwanted situations and dysfunctional behavior patterns.
When we can identify how we deal with emotions that arise in certain situations, we also have the opportunity to choose to do differently in these situations so that we can better take care of our emotional needs and act more functionally. For some psychiatric conditions, psychotherapy is a good treatment method. There are different therapy orientations within the psychotherapeutic field. Some orientations focus more on background and upbringing, while others on the here and now and what causes problems.
